US, Russia fail in rival bids for United Nations action on Venezuela

The United States announced new visa restrictions for "dozens" of officials aligned with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's government and their family members, the State Department's envoy on Venezuela said Friday.

Guaido flouted a court-imposed travel ban last week when he crossed into Colombia to coordinate efforts there to send humanitarian aid into Venezuela, though troops loyal to Maduro blocked a convoy of aid trucks and turned them back. Guaido, head of Venezuela's National Assembly, has invoked constitutional provisions to assume an interim presidency, arguing that Maduro's re-election previous year was fraudulent.

Furthermore, the United States and its allies want to literally force the supplies into Venezuela, violating its sovereignty in the process and cynically showing that Trump only cares about border security when it concerns his country and not any others.

The U.S. also sent additional funds to Venezuela for humanitarian aid after Maduro-backed military forces blocked worldwide aid into the country by placing roadblocks at Colombia border towns. Mr.

Guaido did not say when exactly or how he would return to Venezuela.

Guaido declared himself interim president in January and asserted that Maduro was no longer the legitimate leader of the country.

Russian Federation has accused the USA of preparing to intervene militarily in Venezuela and this week, along with China, blocked a US bid to get the UN Security Council to take action on Venezuela.

Russian Federation and China have supported Maduro's regime, while Mexico, Uruguay, and Vatican City have all called for a dialogue between the two sides.

Those sanctioned include Venezuelan special forces commanders and members of the national police.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido, whom Washington has recognised as interim president, had hoped to bring in the stockpiles of food, which the USA coordinated with Colombia and Brazil.

"We are very afraid that the United States may stage any provocations to provoke bloodshed and find a reason and pretext for intervention in Venezuela".

Guaido, who has been recognized by more than 50 countries as interim president, gave no details of when or how he would return, though speculation is rife that a flight from the Colombian capital Bogota to Caracas is the most likely route. "I think that if he were arrested on his return we would see a very large reaction on the part of the Venezuelan people and on the part of the global community".

Guaido says Maduro's exit would allow Venezuela to emerge from its political and humanitarian crisis with worldwide support.
