Pakistan army says Indian aircraft cross LoC

India Attacks Pakistan: Air Force Crosses Border, 'Bombs Terror Camp' In Balakot

Pakistan's National Security Committee on Tuesday rejected India's claim it was targeting a terrorist camp when Indian aircraft crossed into Pakistani territory earlier in the day and dropped bombs.

He said the Indian aircraft "released payload in haste, while escaping, which fell near Balakot".

The IAF strike included 12 Mirage 2000 jets taking part in the operation that dropped 1000 Kg bombs on Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror camps across LOC, completely destroying them.

On February 14, more than 40 Indian paramilitary personnel were killed by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device driven by a lone attacker. The IAF strikes were in retaliation for a February 14 attack, which was claimed by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

The reply by Islamabad comes after India increased the escalation level following the Pulwama attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK).

Meanwhile, experts say the prevailing situation involving Kashmir is worrying for the entire region, as both India and Pakistan are regional powers with large arsenals of conventional and nuclear weapons.

The attack targeted an area on the disputed border, around the village of Balakot.

He said peace has established in Pakistan as a result of sacrifices of martyrs.

Pakistan has vowed to help investigate the suicide bombing and to take action against anyone found to be using Pakistani soil for attacks on India.

The official Twitter account of the DG ISPR added that no casualties or damage was reported.

Insurgents in Indian-controlled Kashmir have been demanding either outright independence or union with Pakistan. A small group of aircraft broke away from the swarm and headed to Balakot where "the sleeping terrorists were sitting ducks for the Indian bombing", said one source.

He said: "Credible intelligence was received that the JeM was attempting another suicide terror attack in various parts of the country" and training militants for this goal.

BJP leader and Union minister Prakash Javdekar told reporters that people of Indian stood solidly behind their armed forces as he described the IAF strikes as an act of great valour. I said, 'I am ejecting.' As I was about to pull the handle [to eject], I realised I didn't want to become a prisoner of war.

The two neighbors have fought two of their three wars over the Himalayan territory. The airstrike took place at 3.30 am.

Later Tuesday evening, Anand said Pakistani soldiers fired mortar shells and small-arms fire along the Line of Control at the Nowshera, Poonch and Akhnoor sectors, prompting Indian troops to "strongly and befittingly" respond.

Considering the strikes were carried out by the Indian Air Force, how could it have been "non-military" action?

India's Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale said credible intelligence was received that JeM was planning more suicide attacks in India.

Kashmir has been a flashpoint in India-Pakistan relations since partition.
