End of shutdown: White House denies Donald Trump 'caved' to Democrats

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said President Trump will secure the border "with or without Congress" as negotiations continue over a wall after the White House and Congress agreed to temporarily reopen the government.

White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Sunday that President Donald Trump would be willing to shut down the government again to acquire funding for an expanded border barrier.

"We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier".

Based on their analysis, "the USA economy lost at least $6 billion. larger than the $5.7 billion that the White House requested for the border wall", it said in a statement.

Under the deal struck Friday, House and Senate negotiators appointed by congressional leadership will use the next three weeks to see if they can settle the dispute over funding for a wall along the Mexican border.

Rubio also said that he believed Trump was "willing to do something reasonable" for people who are in the United States with temporary protected status or through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, programme, but that it was being held up by the inability to get an agreement on border security.

Gorka, one of Trump's most loyal supporters, rebuked Dobbs' claim Pelosi had "whipped" the president, instead telling viewers to "ignore what Nancy said".

'Dick Durbin publicly said we'll have some walls in the future.

At the top of Democrats' agenda is a package of government-overhaul measures in a bill called H.R. 1, which 100 candidates said in a letter previous year they wanted to be one of the first orders of business.

Members of Congress have warned against Trump using a national emergency to push through funding for his border wall. The short-term bill that Trump signed Friday reopening government will lapse February 15. Democrats say his focus on the wall distracts from more complex immigration problems and is used to whip up his base for political gain.

The White House denied on Sunday that Donald Trump "caved" to Democrats in reopening the federal government despite not receiving any funding for a border wall - a deal Trump had vowed he would never make.

Noting that, "Most voters blamed him for the shutdown, and the costs to the public had begun to build", the editorial quipped, "Maybe someone told Mr. Trump that Presidents get the blame when the economy suffers".

S&P Global Ratings said late Friday that the shutdown cost "is likely worse than what we had previously expected".

The Coast Guard told personnel it was "working through the weekend to process your pay as quickly as possible" and said back pay should be received by Thursday.

Perhaps saddest of all, Maxwell said that Trump needs to "stop listening to Ann Coulter", but added "I don't know who he's going to listen to, because there is nobody in the White House that's smart and effective in terms of governing, but better than Coulter".

"At the end of the day, the president is going to secure the border one way or another".

Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union and a close Trump ally, said this of Trump's view of Pelosi: "He has respect for her".

The Trump administration asked federal department heads to reopen offices in a "prompt and orderly manner", saying that furloughed employees could return to work.
