Spurs to trigger Alderweireld contract extension, says Pochettino

Tottenham stumbles in Premier League title race by losing to Wolves

The news comes several weeks after Spurs triggered an option on Jan Vertonghen's contract.

The Belgium defender will now be contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2020, having been due to be a free agent at the end of the season.

Dembele is closing-in on making his comeback from an ankle injury that's kept him out for over a month but the Wolves game on Saturday will come too soon for the Belgian global.

Tottenham head in to the weekend action sitting second in the Premier League table after scoring 11 goals in their last two games so Pochettino will be looking for a win to reduce Liverpool's gap to three points ahead of their clash with Arsenal.

Dele Alli is a doubt for Tottenham with a hamstring injury, which kept him out of their 5-0 victory over Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Pochettino said. "Sometimes for us it's so tough to discover the real state and level of the players". But this morning he said to me, "Gaffer I'm going to be ready".

"We're always open [to signing players in January] but it's going to be hard - maybe not impossible but hard", Pochettino said.

"They have very good players and the manager is doing a fantastic job. That increases the level, the competitive level in the squad and for sure helps to get good results".

The report claims that Tottenham would have to receive that £25m offer 14 or more days before the end of the 2019 summer transfer window. But Pochettino said any incomings might have to be preceded by outgoings.

"All the teams in the Premier League we have to fear".

"Maybe every day we talk (with chairman Daniel Levy and chief scout Steve Hitchen) but it depends on if players are going to leave and to have space to sign players".

"We know it will be a hard game, but we have the belief to go out and perform in the best way". For sure it's going to be tough to add.
