Republican Sen. Mike Lee: ‘Next Congress’ Will Likely ‘Look Into’ Motive Behind Trump’s Decision-Making On Saudi Arabia

Prince Mohammed began his regional tour at the request of his father, King Salman, according to the Saudi Press Agency, which said he would visit "brotherly" Arab countries.

Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, who turns 92 on Thursday, honoured the prince with a rare display of high protocol from a salute to the flags to the sound of the national anthems before the two reviewed troops.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said on Tuesday that his country is keen to boost bilateral cooperation with Saudi Arabia, Xinhua reports.

"The decision to build a nuclear power plant in the kingdom is the result of serious research that confirmed the need for this step", Saudi energy expert Said al-Shahrani told Sputnik.

Egypt and Saudi Arabia have been bastions of the entire region. Saudi Arabia also faces a hard situation in which it is necessary to call on true friends.

"But even a small risk of a messy dispute in the Argentinian courts could overshadow a trip previously seen as a chance for the prince to show he remained welcome among world leaders even after the conclusion of United States intelligence agencies that he had authorized the killing of Khashoggi", the Herald added, noting that MBS' post-Khashoggi charm offensive has been going fairly well thus far.

Khashan said he thought the crown prince was likely to survive the political storm that followed the killing of Khashoggi and that the issue was gradually losing steam in the Arab media.

"We submitted this info to Argentine prosecutors with the hopes they will investigate MbS' complicity and responsibility for possible war crimes in Yemen, as well as the torture of civilians, including Jamal Khashoggi", said HRW's Middle East and North Africa director Sahara Leah Whiston.

Asked about the prince's visit, Tunisian government minister Selma Elloumi said he is "welcome" in Tunisia and stressed "historical and fraternal" relations between the countries. "We don't want the money of a regime whose hands are stained with blood".

His visit will be the first by a Saudi royal to Tunisia since the 2011 revolution deposed longtime ruler Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, who fled to Saudi Arabia.

Prince Mohammed had arrived in Egypt on Monday night.

Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and columnist for The Washington Post, went missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

The focus of the Human Rights Watch complaint is the Saudi-led war in Yemen.
