North Korea threatens to stall denuclearization in warning to US

John Bolton Says North Korea Hasn't Done Much To Rid Itself Of Nuclear Weapons

He continued to note that the USA has no current plans to relax sanctions on North Korea until there is evidence the country is taking steps to denuclearize, saying the Trump administration would continue its campaign of "maximum pressure".

The announcement by an official at the South's Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korean issues for Seoul, comes amid attempts by Washington and Pyongyang to follow through on nuclear disarmament vows made at a summit in June between President Donald Trump and Kim. "North Korea has not taken the steps we feel are necessary to denuclearise".

Waving mini white and blue "unification" flags - a pale blue silhouette of the Korean peninsula - the head of the North Korean group, Ju Yong-gil, said the football game will "create momentum for reunification throughout all classes".

"However, the USA responded to our expectation by inciting global sanctions and pressure against the DPRK", it said in a statement carried by KCNA news agency.

Bolton, in an interview on Fox News, said U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was prepared to return to North Korea for another meeting with Kim.

The country claimed that the U.S.is denying it "basic decorum" and is clinging "to the outdated acting script which the previous administrations have all tried and failed", warning that they "cannot expect any progress in the implementation" of the joint agreement between the two countries reached earlier this year. North Korea also accused unidentified high-level USA officials of "going against the intention of President Trump" by "making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the global sanctions and pressure".

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said at a regular briefing Thursday that the United States was in touch with North Korea virtually every day or every other day but had no travel plans to announce for the moment.

In the most recent sign of growing frustration between Washington and Pyongyang, North Korea criticised senior American officials for insisting that North Korea give up its nuclear weapons first before easing sanctions. "However, the USA responded to our expectation by inciting global sanctions and pressure against the DPRK", the statement read, using an acronym for North Korea's official name.

They said it had also not agreed to definitions of the key terms of any agreement, or to any inspection of its nuclear test site, which it claims to have decommissioned, but which US intelligence officials have said may still be operable.

Satellite images from last Friday indicate North Korea has carried out additional activities to dismantle a key missile launch facility, the Washington-based 38 North think-tank said on Tuesday.

North Korea rejected United States appeals to give up part of its nuclear arsenal and reaffirmed its friendship with Iran yesterday as the fragile detente between the two nuclear powers began to disintegrate.
