Imran Khan To Invite Modi for Swearing

PTI continues to gain momentum

In a nation obsessed with cricket, Khan cleverly leveraged his star status to transition into a career in politics, founding the PTI, otherwise known as the Justice Party, in 1996.

Dr Nighat Aftab, a Pakistani physician in Dubai, said that, regardless of the allegations, she hopes Mr Khan and his new government will change their nation's future for the better and rid them of corruption.

A party needs 137 seats to claim majority.

The PTI has emerged as the single largest party in National Assembly after the July 25 elections, but it's still short of numbers to form the government.

The PTI leaders who have won more than one seat will have to vacate additional seats as the law allows an individual to retain only one seat.

In other areas, the commission said, "polling staff appeared to be biased toward a certain party", without naming the party.

Earlier, the cricketer-turned-politician had said his government would seek good relations with India and would like leaders of the two countries to sit across the table and resolve all disputes.

"Perhaps D-Chowk area may be the right place to do it", he said, referring to Islamabad's famous D-Chowk where the party had staged its 126-day sit-in in 2014 against alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections. As per the law, the President of Pakistan should convene the maiden NA session within 21 days of election to give oaths to lawmakers and elect the new speaker.

It had been dubbed "Pakistan's dirtiest election" but for now, Khan's victory represents an end to decades of rotating leadership between the PML-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that was punctuated by periods of military rule. "We hope that it will be a straightforward government that is free of thieves and that cares about the country", she said.

"We aspire to a regional order - independent nations that can defend their people and compete fairly in the worldwide marketplace", Pompeo said during a speech on the Indo-Pacific region.

Gahler said European Union observers had not witnessed any military interference in polling stations they assessed.

"There will be protests", said Maulana Fazalur Rehman from the All Parties Conference, which included the outgoing ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). In Pakistan, which is on the cusp of having only its second peaceful civilian transfer of power, that doesn't usually happen. The relationship between the two countries has been one-sided so far and Pakistan has been blamed for all sorts of terrorism in the world.

To form the government, Khan needs to garner a simple majority in the lower house.
