Panama manager's post-match comments are music to England fans' ears

England fans dance in the street in Nizhny Novgorod ahead of the Panama match on Sunday

First, the Three Lions kept their cool and found a way to beat a stubborn Tunisia team in their opening match and, on Sunday, they made light work of a pitiful Panama side in Nizhny Nodgorov.

Harry Kane wants England's fans and players to come together and share their belief in success at the 2018 World Cup.

"But we were feeling rather frightened at half-time because of the huge difference between us and England, and also Belgium".

Kane added two penalties either side of a stunning strike from Jesse Lingard and another Stones header as England went in 5-0 up at half-time.

The Japanese team were unable to follow England into the last 16 but remain well-positioned to progress following an entertaining 2-2 draw with Senegal in the other match held on a high-scoring day in Russian Federation.

Lingard made it 3-0 in the 36th minute with a handsome strike from just outside the area before Stones nodded in the fourth after a cleverly worked free-kick routine.

"Set pieces are a crucial part of the game".

There was still time in a frantic first-half for Kane to score his second as referee Ghead Grisha did what counterpart Wilmar Roldan failed to do in the Tunisia match - award England a deserved penalty for wrestling in the area. "He will still be looking at one or two things we have to improve on and one of them will be set-plays, where the goal came from".

The margin of victory for England surpassed 3-0 wins over Poland and Paraguay in Mexico in 1986, and against Denmark in 2002.

England are now through to the last-16 and will go head-to-head with Belgium on Thursday to decide who tops Group G.

"They did it with quality, they moved the ball well, and were good without the ball as well".

It was a game England were expected to win, but to do so in such an emphatic manner will surely increase expectation levels for the rest of the tournament.

The African team went ahead after a mistake from Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima, whose attempted clearance cannoned back off Sadio Mane and into the net. We've drawn a lot of conclusions but Panama are a small, young child in football, other teams don't really decipher our style of play.
