Mohamed Salah 'happy in camp' says Egyptian FA

Egypt's Mohamed Salah

Salah will weigh up his future with Egypt in the coming weeks, but is fully focused on the final group game against Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Mohamed Salah could quit global football after being upset by being used for political gain during the FIFA World Cup.

Now, in the wake of the Russian Federation defeat, the Liverpool star has come in for fierce criticism for his association with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

He has been hurt by the criticism he's received after being pictured with controversial Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who stands accused of numerous human rights violations.

Due to an injury inflicted by Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in the UEFA Champions League Final, Salah was not fit to play in Egypt's World Cup opener, a loss to Uruguay.

The forward scored a penalty in the second game against the hosts, but Hector Cuper's men were beaten both by Russian Federation and Uruguay.

CNN's John Sinnott and Alireza Hajihosseini report that Salah "feels exposed" by the events and does not want to be used for political gain.

Salah is claimed to be assessing his future, following what has turned into something of a debacle at Egypt's training base in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic.

Chechnya leader Kadyrov is backed by the Kremlin but is under sanctions imposed by the United States, who accuse him of contravening human rights.

Reports from Egypt suggest that Salah is angered by how his influence and public image have been used to help further certain parties' political agendas.

Friday night's banquet was held at Kadyrov's presidential palace in Grozny. "That's right!" Kadyrov wrote in a social media post. In an interview with BBC, he said: "Everyone has played here, even Maradona at our stadium, but we don't use this kind of thing for politics". Given the vocal Tweets from his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, it's at the very least clear that all is not well in the Salah camp. "They chose us themselves".
