Lukaku breaks Belgium record against Tunisia

Roberto Martínez admits Romelu Lukaku suffered ligament damage in win

Lukaku's goals in both of Belgium's first two clashes also saw him become the first player since Diego Maradona for Argentina in 1986 to score two or more goals in back-to-back games at the World Cup.

"If we could have seven days to prepare, I'd say we'd start with the same team, but the reality is that you are only as good as the 23 players".

"With the players Belgium have going forward, they can hurt anyone - Kevin de Bruyne can find the pass, Hazard can run at defenders and Lukaku can provide the finish".

Ominously for England, Martinez said there is more to come from a Belgium team growing in confidence, but who are far from the finished article.

With both teams already certain of qualification, the only issue to be settled is who, when and where they play in the next round, with Group G's victor meeting Group H's runner-up in Rostov on July 2 and the Group G's second-placed team playing Group H's top team in Moscow a day later.

He has levelled with Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo as the 2018 FIFA World Cup top scorer with four goals.

Belgium and England have won their opening two matches over Tunisia and Panama to book their places in the last 16, though Thursday's meeting in Kaliningrad will decide who takes top spot.

"We're looking to do well and make ourselves stronger as a squad against England".

In it for the long haul, they face a World Cup reality that could strip some of the flavour from a mouthwatering group decider between two Premier League-rich squads and two of the tournament's high-scoring teams.

A hesitant first half in the opener against Panama, when captain Eden Hazard had to give him a rocket at the break and tell Lukaku to stop "hiding up front", was followed with an explosive performance to unpick a packed defence in the second. Although none of those injuries appear serious, they are obvious candidates to miss the England match to ensure they are 100 per cent fit for the knockouts.

Against England, it hardly made any attacking effort once it equalized, but to stay in contention Tunisia will need to end a 12-match winless streak at the World Cup finals, stretching back 40 years.

Belgium are beginning to look the part at this summer's World Cup, with another resounding victory over the Eagles of Carthage. Mexico's 2-1 win over South Korea earlier on Saturday had ensured that Germanywould be out in the event of a defeat, with a draw little better.
